Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, has announced that 2.5 million liters of fuel have been provided at subsidized rates to 1,832 vessels thus far. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of fluctuating global oil prices, driven by conflicts in the Middle East, on the local fishing industry. Since the introduction of this relief measure in February this year, arrangements have been made to ensure fishermen can continue their operations without interruption, with fuel accessibility facilitated across all atolls. Despite some logistical challenges in fuel distribution, the government, under the direct guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is continuously working to further strengthen and streamline this service.
