The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has expressed profound concern over the Male’ City Council’s failure to hand over the land required for the redevelopment of the Male’ Fish Market. The Ministry noted that despite repeated formal requests since March of this year, the City Council has failed to provide the necessary cooperation for the project.

This MVR 126 million project involves the construction of a modern three-story complex, for which the contract has already been awarded and the necessary funding secured. The government emphasized that the continued delay in commencement, caused solely by the failure to hand over the site, is resulting in significant public inconvenience. Furthermore, the President has previously highlighted similar instances where a lack of cooperation from the City Council hindered infrastructure development, specifically regarding road construction in the market area.
