Ibrahim Shujau, the Member of Parliament for the Baarashu constituency, has alleged that the amendment proposed by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to the Land Transport Act is a calculated move to benefit a specific insurance company and secure funding for the 2028 presidential campaign. He stated that this amendment would enrich insurance companies by collecting funds from the public, labeling it a deceptive proposal intended to profit certain individuals under the guise of assisting accident victims.
Furthermore, Shujau highlighted that mandating comprehensive insurance instead of third-party insurance primarily covers damages to one’s own vehicle. He expressed his opposition to the amendment, asserting that it offers no genuine benefit to the families of those injured in accidents.
