The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has secured a majority in the councils of five islands designated to be developed as urban centers, aligned with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s developmental vision. According to the official results released by the Elections Commission, the PNC attained majority control in R. Ungoofaaru, B. Eydhafushi, Lh. Naifaru, F. Nilandhoo, and L. Fonadhoo. Notably, the party swept all seats in the Fonadhoo Council.

In contrast, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured the majority in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, while no single party managed to claim a majority in the ADh. Mahibadhoo Council. These urban centers are part of the President’s strategic initiative to establish high-standard services and infrastructure across the northern, central, and southern regions of the Maldives.
