The People’s National Congress (PNC) has achieved a historic milestone by securing all seats in the Sh. Narudhoo Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections held on Saturday. This marks the first time a single political party has gained full control of the island’s local governance, which was previously dominated by the Jumhooree Party (JP) and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
According to the provisional results, PNC candidates emerged victorious in all contested positions, including the Council President, Council members, the dedicated seat for women, and all seats within the WDC. This landslide victory against the MDP signifies a major political shift and a significant advancement for the PNC in the region.
