In the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections held yesterday, the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) achieved a clean sweep of all contested seats in GA. Villingili. According to the preliminary results released by the Elections Commission, the PNC secured all 10 seats, comprising 5 council seats and 5 WDC seats. While the main opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), failed to win a single seat in Villingili, Visham Mohamed was elected as the President of the Island Council. Looking at the overall nationwide results, although the PNC secured a significant number of seats, the MDP maintained its dominance in urban centers by winning the mayoral seats and council majorities in five cities, including the capital, Malé.
