Sergio Go, the United States Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, has concluded his official visit to the Maldives and departed from the country. During his stay, he held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, and the Minister of Defence, Ghassan Maumoon. However, despite a request to meet with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the proposed meeting did not take place.
Regarding this matter, President Muizzu stated that the Maldives remains open to welcoming high-level representatives from any nation, with the exception of Israel. Nevertheless, the President emphasized that he had no intention of engaging in discussions with the U.S. envoy concerning the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He further asserted that the Maldives would not permit its territory to be utilized for any military purposes or involvement in warfare. Mr. Go’s visit to the Maldives was part of a four-day regional tour that also included Sri Lanka.
