In a major operation conducted by the specialized task force established to curb illegal expatriate-led business activities in the Maldives, 107 establishments have been shut down following inspections of 247 locations. Since the initiative’s launch in November last year, 68 of these businesses have been permitted to resume operations after rectifying their regulatory issues.
The Ministry of Economic Development stated that the closures were enforced due to several violations, including operating without proper registration, conducting business outside authorized sectors, and failing to adhere to mandatory health and safety standards. Reopening is strictly contingent upon full legal compliance and the settlement of any outstanding fines.
