The Maldivian government has initiated discussions with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) regarding the third phase of the Maafaru International Airport expansion project. Under the ongoing second phase, the airport’s runway has already been upgraded to accommodate wide-body aircraft. Furthermore, approximately 20 percent of the work to double the terminal’s capacity has now been completed. Given that Noonu Atoll is home to numerous luxury resorts, Maafaru International Airport remains one of the busiest regional airports in the country.
