
Statistics from the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) reveal that MVR 17 million was collected as Zakat al-Mal this past July, marking a significant 43% increase compared to the same period last year. Total collections for the current year have now reached MVR 97 million, reflecting a 31% growth over the corresponding period in the previous year.
The current Nisab (minimum threshold) for Zakat al-Mal in the Maldives is set at MVR 21,836.50. While Zakat can be conveniently paid through MIRA’s online platforms, the Maldives Zakat House has recently distributed funds to 2,384 individuals registered on the national poverty database. Each recipient received MVR 5,500, which stands as the highest per-capita distribution of Zakat al-Mal to date.
