According to recent statistics from the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the number of international airlines operating to Velana International Airport (VIA) has risen to 41. This marks an increase of six airlines compared to the 35 that operated by the end of last year. Despite the suspension of flights by some airlines due to regional instability in the Middle East, the government’s strategic policies have successfully boosted the arrival of flights and private jets from other regions. Minister Mohamed Ameen highlighted that efforts to reduce over-reliance on the Middle Eastern market have led to a significant increase in flight frequencies from Asia and Europe. Currently, the Asian region dominates the market with 16 airlines operating to the Maldives.
