The Malé City Council has decided not to hand over the land designated for the construction of the new Malé Fish Market to the Ministry of Infrastructure unless it is done through proper legal channels. Mayor Adam Azim stated that since the land had been contracted to another company during the previous term, handing it over to a new party without terminating the existing agreement would constitute a legal violation. Consequently, the Council has resolved to seek clarification on the legal impediments and find a resolution through consultations with the relevant government authorities. Although the government has already awarded the project to a contractor for MVR 117 million, the Council insists that all necessary legal procedures must be finalized before the site is officially handed over.
