Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially announced his intention to contest the upcoming Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential primary. The former President revealed his decision during a meeting held with his campaign team.
In addition to Solih, several other prominent figures within the party have expressed interest in the primary, including MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, former Vice President Faisal Naseem, Abdulla Shahid, Adam Azim, and Dr. Shamheed. Meanwhile, former President Mohamed Nasheed has indicated that he will not be seeking the party’s nomination this time, further stating his endorsement for Fayyaz Ismail.
The MDP presidential primary is scheduled to take place either next year or in the early part of 2028.
