In a strategic move to resolve the current logistical challenges at the Malé Commercial Port and bolster the national economy, the government has decided to transition specific port operations to Thilafushi, effective this October. As part of this initiative, a 100-meter quay wall has been established at Thilafushi to facilitate 24-hour container clearance and cargo loading services via barges.
Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has indicated that these enhancements will lead to significant improvements in port efficiency by November of next year. Starting from October, port operations will be conducted simultaneously at both Malé and Thilafushi. This project represents a vital step in the government’s plan to migrate 80% of Malé Commercial Port’s services to Thilafushi, aimed at providing greater convenience and streamlined processes for the business community.
