President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government’s objective is to establish a rehabilitation system rooted in Islamic principles and driven by community involvement to find a sustainable solution to the drug crisis in the Maldives. The President emphasized that rather than focusing solely on clinical treatment, the government prioritizes a holistic approach that identifies root causes to successfully reintegrate recovering individuals into society.
Furthermore, the President highlighted the vital importance of collaborative efforts between families, civil society organizations, and state institutions to strengthen the rehabilitation framework. This initiative aims to ensure that those seeking treatment emerge with a fortified religious faith and the capacity to lead dignified lives. While work is currently underway to establish rehabilitation centers in three islands across the country, the government remains committed to implementing modern reforms across the entire system.
