President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that a permanent solution to the congestion in Male’ City will only be achieved once regional development projects across the Maldives are fully realized. Noting that people migrate to the capital primarily in search of housing, employment, and educational opportunities, the President highlighted that the government has commenced a strategic initiative to develop urban centers across seven designated regions of the country.
The President further emphasized that by establishing high-quality hospitals and essential services within these regional hubs, residents currently living in Male’ will be encouraged to relocate back to the atolls. Additionally, to address the acute parking crisis in the capital, he announced that the construction of dedicated parking buildings is scheduled to begin within this year. The President reaffirmed that the government’s ultimate objective is to provide a comprehensive and lasting solution to the multifaceted challenges facing Male’ City.
