The number of private jets landing at Velana International Airport (VIA) during the final two weeks of March this year has surged by 32.8% compared to the same period last year. According to statistics released by the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), a total of 178 private jets arrived between March 15 and 31, with the highest volume of traffic recorded on March 21.
The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) noted that this increase is primarily driven by the cancellation of scheduled flights due to ongoing unrest in the Middle East, leading tourists to opt for private jet travel to reach the Maldives. This trend highlights the continued resilience and strong demand for Maldivian tourism, even amidst global geopolitical shifts.
