
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called upon all eligible citizens to exercise their fundamental right to vote.
The President made this appeal while speaking to the press after casting his ballot in the ongoing elections for Local Councils and Women’s Development Committees, as well as the referendum to gather public opinion on synchronizing major national elections.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized that voting is a legal right inherent to every citizen and urged everyone to fulfill this civic responsibility.
Voting commenced today at 08:00 AM and will continue until 04:00 PM. A total of 588 polling stations have been established across the Maldives. Each voter will be provided with three separate ballot papers, and it is essential that each ballot is placed in its designated ballot box. The Elections Commission has ensured that streamlined arrangements are in place at all polling stations to facilitate a smooth voting process.
In this election, a total of 294,876 individuals are eligible to vote, comprising 144,506 women and 150,370 men. A total of 1,592 candidates are contesting for the Local Councils, while 1,368 candidates are vying for positions in the Women’s Development Committees.
