The government is making preparations to lay the foundation stone for the largest mosque in the Maldives next month in Hulhumalé, coinciding with the 900th anniversary of the country embracing Islam. The land for the mosque, located at the junction of Hulhumalé Phase 2 and Phase 3, has already been handed over to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. An agreement has been reached with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Rajhi company to finance the project. According to the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, this landmark establishment, which will also include a Quran Museum, is envisioned as a significant academic and cultural hub that will preserve and pass on the Maldives’ Islamic civilization, history, and faith to future generations.
