In the recently concluded local council elections, Suha Ibrahim, the candidate from the People’s National Congress (PNC), narrowly secured the presidency of the Dh. Meedhoo Council by a margin of just one vote. This election marks a significant political shift for the island, which was previously considered a stronghold of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
In addition to the presidency, the PNC achieved a clean sweep by winning all three seats on the island council. Furthermore, the PNC secured two out of the three seats on the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), while the MDA managed to obtain only one seat. This outcome represents a substantial change in the political landscape of Meedhoo.
