As part of the government’s rigorous efforts to find a permanent solution to the issue of undocumented immigrants in the Maldives, more than 12,000 expatriates have been repatriated since November last year.
Maldives Immigration has been conducting a series of special operations across the Greater Male’ area as well as in the atolls. These operations focus on identifying individuals engaged in illegal business activities and those residing without valid documentation, ensuring that appropriate legal actions are taken against them. Furthermore, relevant authorities are working extensively to compile comprehensive data on foreign nationals and verify the validity of their work permits.
To encourage public participation in addressing this issue, a dedicated platform titled “Immigration Watch” has also been launched.
