According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, there are currently 208,937 expatriates working in the Maldives with valid work permits.
Through the efforts of ‘Operation Kurangi,’ the percentage of foreign workers holding valid visas and maintaining regular fee payments has seen a significant increase, rising from 20% to 66%. Furthermore, substantial progress has been made in the biometric enrollment process, with the data of over 200,000 individuals now successfully verified.
However, as issues such as expatriates engaging in unauthorized self-employment and residing illegally in the country continue to persist, relevant authorities urge employers and the general public to act responsibly in addressing these challenges.
