Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, has stated that “Coast Guard Ship Imaduddin,” gifted by the Australian government, is a pivotal vessel that will demonstrate the prestige and capabilities of the Maldivian military at sea. He noted that in light of the evolving regional security landscape, the necessity for such vessels has become increasingly vital to safeguarding the Maldives’ borders and national sovereignty.
Furthermore, Major General Hilmy highlighted that under the robust policies of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, significant efforts are underway to modernize the Maldivian military. In this regard, he revealed plans to acquire an advanced vessel from Türkiye, establish a “Special Boat Squadron,” and procure 20 interceptor crafts before this year’s Victory Day. This new ship is envisioned as a vessel that will proudly fly the Maldivian flag on the international stage and achieve new milestones in the discharge of national duties.
