The Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, Ibrahim Iyas, has announced that efforts are underway to induct a second wide-body aircraft into the national airline’s fleet by the end of this year, as part of the strategy to expand Maldivian’s operations. Despite global supply chain challenges and high demand for aircraft in the international market, significant progress has been made through collaborative efforts with Airbus.

The addition of this second aircraft is expected to facilitate the launch of new routes to destinations such as Russia and South Korea. This expansion aligns with the President’s vision to bolster the Maldives’ tourism sector and enhance the nation’s international air connectivity. The airline’s first wide-body aircraft, an Airbus A330-200, is currently operating successful flights to destinations including China, India, and Australia.
