A high-level panel discussion themed “Maldives to the World” was held at the “Global Seafood Marketplace 2026” in Barcelona, Spain, to showcase and promote the Maldivian fisheries industry.
The event was attended by the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Honorable Ahmed Shiyam, along with prominent industry leaders. The discussion focused on the diverse opportunities within the sector and the Maldives’ adherence to rigorous sustainability standards.
A key highlight of the panel was celebrating the historic “Best Choice” rating recently awarded by Seafood Watch to the Maldivian skipjack tuna fishery. This landmark achievement marks the first time a specific country has received such a prestigious rating. This recognition is expected to significantly bolster international confidence in Maldivian seafood products, potentially increasing their premium value in the global market.
