The Republic of Maldives and Ethiopia have formally entered into an Air Services Agreement aimed at establishing scheduled flight operations between the two countries. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Maldivian government by Minister Mohamed Ameen. This milestone represents the sixth aviation agreement the Maldives has concluded with a nation from the African continent.
This strategic partnership paves the way for Ethiopian Airlines to commence direct flight operations to the Maldives, while simultaneously providing the national carrier, ‘Maldivian,’ the opportunity to operate routes to Ethiopia. This initiative is a pivotal component of the government’s broader strategy to diversify the tourism industry and bolster international economic ties. The agreement is expected to significantly enhance the Maldives’ global aviation connectivity and foster new commercial and trade opportunities.
