A formal financing agreement has been signed with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Rajhi Company for the development of a magnificent Grand Mosque between Hulhumale Phase 2 and Phase 3, which will have the capacity to accommodate 10,000 worshippers. The agreement was signed in Madinah by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed. The physical work of this landmark project is scheduled to commence on September 13, 2026, coinciding with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ conversion to Islam.
This ambitious project is envisioned as a comprehensive complex featuring Waqf structures, commercial buildings, parking facilities, and a Quran Museum. The financing company will bear the entire cost of the project, covering everything from the design phase to final completion.
