Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, has announced that the L. Hithadhoo causeway project is scheduled for completion and will be open to the public by mid-2028. Speaking at the People’s Majlis, the Minister noted that although the project agreement was signed by the previous administration, physical work commenced effectively under the current government.
The project, valued at approximately MVR 81 million, includes the construction of a 390-meter revetment, two bridges, and a 714-meter road. The Minister further highlighted that despite financial challenges resulting from the previous government signing numerous projects simultaneously, the current work is being managed and scheduled to ensure it remains within the state’s budgetary capacity. Physical work on the project began on October 20, 2025, and current efforts are focused on casting the blocks required for the bridge construction.
