The Criminal Court has sentenced two journalists from the local news outlet “Adhadhu,” Mohamed Shahuzaan and Leevan Ali Naseer, to imprisonment for contempt of court and the violation of a standing court order.

This legal action was initiated following their involvement in reporting on and discussing a video documentary that had been prohibited by the court. According to the court’s ruling, Shahuzaan has been sentenced to 15 days of imprisonment, while Leevan has received a 10-day sentence.

In addition to these sentences, “Adhadhu” news has been barred from attending press briefings hosted by the President’s Office in connection with this matter. Furthermore, defamation charges have been formally filed against the senior management of the news outlet.
