“Invisible Payments Set to be the Most Significant Advancement Over the Next Five Years”

The CEO of Bank of Maldives, Mohamed Shareef, has highlighted that payment transactions are poised to evolve into seamless, automated experiences within the next five years. Speaking at the Maldives Financial Expo, he noted that the integration of APIs, digital identities, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will enhance the security of the financial system and facilitate instantaneous access to financial support for businesses. Furthermore, the CEO emphasized that businesses must prepare for ‘agentic commerce’—where transactions are managed through AI agents. He also underscored that alongside these technological shifts, prioritizing human resource development and strengthening cybersecurity remains paramount.
