President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized that the consolidation of democracy in the Maldives requires every citizen to practice self-accountability. Addressing allegations raised by former President Mohamed Nasheed—who claimed that public deposits in banks were being utilized to settle state debts—President Muizzu asserted that disseminating misinformation concerning the country’s economic stability and sovereignty damages international confidence and inflicts severe harm on the nation. The President further remarked that individuals who have served in high-ranking state positions bear a greater responsibility to act with integrity, refrain from activities that undermine the country, and lead by example.
