Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has stated that the government will prioritize facilitating access to world-renowned technology platforms, such as PayPal, for Maldivian youth. Speaking at a session regarding the introduction of PayPal services in the Maldives through Ooredoo m-Faisaa, the Minister highlighted that this is a significant step towards digitalizing the Maldivian economy and reducing its over-reliance on the tourism sector. The government aims to ensure that 15 percent of the national economy is driven by the digital sector by 2030. The Minister further noted that the availability of PayPal services will open doors for Maldivians to sell local products in international markets, thereby providing a substantial boost to the country’s economic growth.
