The Maldivian government has decided to identify and deport undocumented expatriates living in the country within the next six months. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that biometric data has already been collected from 98 percent of the expatriate workforce currently in the Maldives. Through the ongoing “Operation Kurangi,” efforts are underway to establish a comprehensive national registry of foreigners. The government aims to achieve a permanent solution to the issue of undocumented migration by 2027. To date, more than 6,700 undocumented foreigners have been deported.
