President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has accused the Male’ City Council of deliberately hindering the development of the “Male’ Wet Market Complex,” a project designed to provide significant convenience to the residents and fishermen of the capital. The President stated that although funding has been secured, a contractor has been appointed, and all administrative formalities were completed four months ago, Mayor Adam Azim and the City Council have consistently refused to hand over the site, citing various excuses.

The proposed six-story modern facility is planned to house dedicated markets for fish, vegetables, and fruits, as well as integrated food courts. The President emphasized that obstructing projects essential for public welfare for political purposes serves no constructive end. Furthermore, he provided his assurance that despite the challenges posed by the council, the government remains committed to executing this project and delivering a sustainable solution for the people.
