A team of three highly experienced Finnish divers has arrived in the Maldives and commenced efforts to assist the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in the ongoing search and rescue operation for the missing divers in Vaavu Atoll. According to the President’s Office, this expert team, specialized in high-risk missions and equipped with advanced technology, is currently conducting orientation dives to familiarize themselves with the geographical conditions of the area. Maldivian military and police divers will also be providing continuous support throughout this joint operation.
The incident, which occurred on the 14th of this month, involved the disappearance of five Italian nationals. To date, only the body of the instructor has been recovered. It is also noted with profound sadness that a Maldivian military diver lost his life during the course of this search operation.
