Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has stated that with the ongoing waqf projects in the Maldives, the financial challenges facing the Islamic sector will be addressed within the next two years. To streamline these efforts and secure funding for mosque renovations, a specialized entity named “Maldives Awqaf Investments Limited” has been established. Currently, six waqf projects are underway across various regions of the country. The Minister noted that since mosque maintenance cannot be sustained solely through the state budget, the primary objective of this policy is to generate revenue through Shari’ah-compliant investments to ensure the sustainable development of mosques and religious services.
