As part of the government’s initiative to enhance the fisheries sector by establishing 11,000 tonnes of cold storage capacity across seven islands, Minister Ahmed Shiyam has announced that the 4,000-tonne facility in Felivaru will be operational by this year’s Fishermen’s Day. Currently, 82% of the Indian-funded project in Felivaru has been completed. Similar infrastructure projects are also underway at various stages in Kooddoo, Thinadhoo, Ihavandhoo, Kanduoiygiri, and Hirilandhoo, alongside a facility in Mulah being developed with assistance from the Saudi Fund.
