Minister Mohamed Ameen has stated that reducing domestic airfares in the Maldives presents significant challenges under the current circumstances. Speaking at the Parliament, the Minister highlighted that the primary obstacle to lowering prices is the insufficient passenger volume. He noted that despite rising global fuel prices leading to increased costs for airlines worldwide, the government’s policy has successfully maintained stable domestic flight rates. Furthermore, the Minister emphasized that the high operational costs associated with the modern ATR aircraft currently in use also contribute to the existing pricing structure.
