
In her address at the official ceremony marking World No Tobacco Day, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed called upon business owners, particularly those in the café and restaurant industry, to lead the efforts in safeguarding Maldivian society from the perils of tobacco. Highlighting that tobacco use leads to long-term health complications spanning generations, including cancer and cardiovascular diseases, she emphasized that it also represents a significant economic burden. The First Lady further noted that the harmful effects of tobacco impact both smokers and non-smokers alike. She urged the community to work together with firm resolve to overcome this epidemic and advised remaining vigilant against subtle efforts to promote and advertise tobacco products.
