The Government of Maldives has announced that the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has granted a deferral on the repayment of a USD 100 million debt. Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer stated that this extension, pertaining to a 2017 sukuk, was secured following successful negotiations with the United Arab Emirates. The Minister highlighted that this relief is a significant component of the government’s broader efforts to manage the nation’s fiscal situation and reduce public expenditure. He further noted that other major development partners, including India and China, have also extended similar debt servicing concessions to the Maldives.
