A team of three specialist divers from Finland has arrived in the Maldives, equipped with advanced gear, to assist in the search for the Italian divers missing in Vaavu Atoll. Dispatched by the Italian government, the team is currently engaged in discussions with the Maldives Coast Guard to coordinate and finalize their operational plan.
The search operation had been briefly suspended following the tragic death of an experienced Coast Guard diver during the mission. Of the five individuals reported missing since the 14th of this month, only the body of the diving instructor has been recovered to date. In connection with this incident, the relevant ministry has suspended the operating license of the vessel used by the divers.
