
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence that the longstanding close relationship between the two countries will be further strengthened and advanced with the inaugural visit of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the Maldives. The Sri Lankan President arrived in the Maldives on the 28th of this month at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He has now departed after concluding his visit.
In a social media post regarding the Sri Lankan President’s visit to the Maldives, President Muizzu highlighted that this visit would further strengthen the close friendly relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and expressed confidence that it would lead to a new level of cooperation and mutual assistance between the two countries. President Dr. Muizzu stated that he has no doubt this visit will bring many benefits to the people of both nations. Furthermore, he gave full assurance that the Maldives would remain committed to implementing the agreements made between the two countries during this visit.

During the Sri Lankan President’s visit to the Maldives, discussions were held to strengthen ties in various sectors. These included talks on capacity building, education, climate change, fisheries and agriculture, food security, maritime safety and security, and strengthening air connectivity.

Additionally, during this visit, an agreement on legal cooperation between the two countries was signed. Another important agreement on human resource development in the foreign affairs sector was also signed. During this trip, the Sri Lankan President also met with ministers of the Maldivian government.
