Completion of road construction and other projects in Addu City celebrated

The completion of the road construction project and several other projects in Addu City has been celebrated. This celebration took place virtually during a ceremony held at the President’s Office as part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s current visit to the Maldives. The road construction project in Addu City was carried out under India’s Exim Bank’s Line of Credit facility. This project was implemented by Afcons Infrastructure Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. Under this project, 40 kilometers of roads across 6 wards of Addu City have been developed to modern standards. The drainage system established under this project covers all 6 wards of Addu City.

Additionally, 3.4 kilometers of existing paved roads have been resurfaced to improve their condition. As part of this project, street lights needed for all islands of Addu City and surveillance cameras required for security services have been installed in various areas along the roads. The project also included the construction of a new 1.463-kilometer four-lane road from Hithadhoo Gaukende area to Maradhoo, crossing Hankende, which has been opened for traffic.

In addition to these projects, the completion of two outdoor gyms developed in Hithadhoo, Addu City, a small-scale fish processing plant in Hithadhoo, Addu City, and an outdoor gym developed in GDh. Vaadhoo was also celebrated today. Furthermore, the completion of a youth center developed in GDh. Gemanafushi and a volleyball court developed in Sh. Kanditheemu was also marked.
