“Work to provide additional services at N. Atoll Hospital will begin very soon”

The Minister of Health, Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim, has stated that work to initiate additional services at N. Atoll Hospital will be implemented very soon. The Minister made this statement in an interview given to PSM News during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing trip to N. Atoll.

Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim said that people’s hopes are tied to the advancements needed in the health sector. Highlighting that the President has an important vision to improve the quality of health services provided to the people of N. Atoll, the Minister said that one of the most important tasks to achieve this is strengthening the hospital’s infrastructure and expanding the services provided by the hospital. In this regard, the Minister noted that laying the foundation for the new building of N. Atoll Hospital is an important step.

“We will very soon begin implementing the work needed to provide additional services there. And contracts for further projects to improve the infrastructure conditions, which are the most important issues facing health services in other islands of the atoll, will be signed today and tomorrow,” said Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim.

The Minister said that the government’s policy is to upgrade existing regional hospitals to tertiary level and start additional services in atoll hospitals, reducing the need for people to travel to other islands for medical treatment. He also noted that expanding services such as psychiatry, physiotherapy, and speech therapy in the atolls is an important policy. At a meeting held last night to meet with the people of Manadhoo, the President said that until the construction of the new hospital in Manadhoo is completed, additional services will be established at the current hospital. The President assured that the process of finding technical personnel for this is underway.

These include services in areas such as physiotherapy, mental health, and speech therapy, the President said. In his speech, the President mentioned that a lot of work has been done to strengthen the health system over the past year and a half, and that many projects will be completed and new projects will begin in the future. In this regard, the President said that strengthening the health services of N. Atoll is also an important policy.
