President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that along with establishing a new sewerage system to address the issues with the current system in N. Manadhoo, road construction work will also begin next month. He said this while speaking at a meeting with the people of Manadhoo. In his speech, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that over the past year and a half, efforts were made to facilitate ways to move projects forward. He said that despite economic challenges, ways have now been found to progress development projects while overcoming these obstacles. The President mentioned that this includes restarting stalled projects and implementing projects to fulfill his pledges.

Highlighting the issues with Manadhoo’s sewerage system, the President said that while residents have been enduring these difficulties for about 10 years, the solution is to implement a project to establish a new sewerage system. He stated that this is the only solution, though it will incur costs. Reiterating that it is now feasible to carry out such large projects, the President said that RDC will start the project to completely renew Manadhoo’s sewerage system next month. He also assured that the road construction project would progress alongside this project. The President said that even though the new project will begin, Fenaka will continue to work on finding temporary solutions through the existing sewerage system.

“So, the result will be that by the end of next year, the sewerage system will be completely changed, and there will be considerable progress in the road construction project as well. As the sewerage project nears completion in about a year and a half, road construction will also be ongoing,” said the President.

Touching on the health sector, the President said that until the construction of the new hospital in Manadhoo is completed, additional services will be established at the current hospital. He assured that the process of finding technical personnel for this is underway. This includes establishing services in areas such as physiotherapy, mental health, and speech therapy. “We expect to accomplish many of these things on this island this year. Including establishing an ICU. There have been some delays due to the rainy weather. However, these things will be done soon. Overall, as the health sector is important for every island, unlike the infrastructure sector, priority is given to establishing comprehensive health services across the entire country,” said the President.

In his speech, the President said that much work has been done to strengthen the health system over the past year and a half, and in the coming days, many projects will be completed and new ones will begin. He said that strengthening health services in N. Atoll is also an important policy. Addressing the sports sector, the President said he has made promises in this area, including the construction of a fitness and recreation center, an outdoor gym, and a multi-sports complex. He said that the multi-sports complex is a project planned to be carried out with foreign funding, which has now been secured. The President also said that the construction of a volleyball court in Manadhoo will proceed this year.

In his speech, the President emphasized the importance of the education sector, saying that the Islamic Ministry is working to fulfill his promise of building a university campus in Manadhoo. He said this work will also proceed as soon as the land is allocated. Additionally, the President said efforts are being made to complete the Manadhoo School project quickly.

The President stated that housing is one of the biggest issues, and that a comprehensive solution cannot be provided to any island at once. Therefore, he said that in the first phase, 50 housing units will be built in Manadhoo this year, with more projects to follow in the coming years. Concluding his speech, the President said that through the N. Atoll RTL ferry system, direct travel from Manadhoo to R. Ungoofaaru will be arranged from next November.
