
At Singapore’s National Orchid Garden, an orchid has been named after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajida Mohamed. The President is currently on an official visit to Singapore at the invitation of the country’s President. As part of this trip, the presidential couple visited Singapore’s Botanical Gardens this morning. The newly named orchid has been placed in the “VIP Orchids” collection.
Naming orchid hybrids after distinguished state visitors is a long-standing tradition in Singapore.

Foreign dignitaries visiting Singapore on official trips are given the opportunity to visit the National Orchid Garden and name a flower. The Botanical Gardens comprises numerous gardens with various types of flowers and plants. It is a very popular place among both Singaporean citizens and tourists. The presidential couple was welcomed to the Orchid Garden by Dr. Tan Puay Yok, Executive Director of National Parks and Gardens Cluster and Group Director of Singapore Botanic Gardens.

The President’s couple signed the visitors’ book at the Orchid Garden and toured the garden. Accompanying the President on this visit were Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, Minister of Internal Security and Arts Ali Ihusaan, and Minister of Construction Dr. Abdullah Muttalib.
Singapore’s Botanic Gardens is the first and only tropical botanical garden on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The Orchid Garden within it houses approximately 60,000 orchid plants and over 1,000 different species of orchids.
