President Visits New VIA Terminal to Inspect Progress

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has visited the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) to inspect the ongoing development work. The President’s Office stated that upon the President’s arrival at VIA, senior officials from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Saudi Binladin Group, which is constructing the terminal, provided the President with additional information about various counters, facilities, and services being established for passengers in the new terminal.

This terminal is designed to serve seven million passengers annually. MACL said that work on the new terminal is progressing at a very rapid pace, with the aim of completing it and commencing services by October of this year.

During the President’s visit, he was accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior government officials. This included MACL’s CEO Ibrahim Mohamed Shareef and other senior executives of the company. The 72,000 square foot terminal will feature 47 check-in counters, six self-service kiosks, a modern baggage handling system, and an advanced security screening system.
