According to recent statistics from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), loans and financing extended to the private sector by commercial banks have experienced a 15 percent increase. Across the primary sectors of the economy, the construction industry demonstrated the most significant growth, while the tourism sector continues to hold the largest overall share of bank credit. The expansion in the construction sector is primarily attributed to a rise in financing for housing projects. Furthermore, there has been a notable increase in funds allocated to the tourism industry for resort development, renovations, and the expansion of guesthouses.
