During a ceremony held to hand over sports equipment donated by China’s Yunnan Province to the Maldives, the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, highlighted that sports serve as a vital tool for strengthening social ties and fostering community unity. The Minister noted that the equipment, training opportunities, and coaching assistance provided by China have significantly contributed to the development of Maldivian athletes and facilitated the implementation of grassroots programs. Emphasizing that this support symbolizes the close bilateral relations between the two nations, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and Yunnan Province. The latest donation includes equipment for sports such as football, basketball, and badminton, marking the third instance of such assistance from China within the past year.
