Following his official visit to India, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, stated that the discussions held between the two nations have established a solid foundation for bolstering economic relations. The primary focus of the visit centered on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Bilateral Investment Treaty. These agreements are expected to grant Maldivian fish products access to India’s extensive market and attract significant Indian investments in sectors such as the digital economy, tourism, and renewable energy. Furthermore, these initiatives aim to eliminate trade barriers and create new opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This collaboration is anticipated to be a major catalyst for diversifying the Maldivian economy and generating employment opportunities. The Minister highlighted that these advancements are the direct result of high-level meetings between the leaders of both countries and the business forums conducted during the visit.
